Stop your PC screen going dark during IPTV Smarters Pro

Posted

It is nine in the evening, you have settled in, the stream is running well, and then the screen goes black. The PC has decided nobody is home. Nothing went wrong with the connection or the app — Windows simply followed its power rules, which were written for office work, not a two-hour stream. Fixing it takes about five minutes across two places: the Windows power settings and, optionally, a small adjustment inside IPTV Smarters Pro itself.

What is actually switching off your screen

Windows manages two separate timers that can interrupt viewing. The first is the screen turn-off timer, which cuts the display backlight after a set period of no keyboard or mouse activity. The second is the sleep timer, which suspends the whole machine. A third layer, the screen saver, can also kick in and cover the picture with an animation.

When you watch a stream, you are not moving the mouse or pressing keys, so Windows reads that as idle time. The app is busy — it is pulling data, decoding video, pushing audio — but Windows does not count that as user activity unless the application explicitly tells it to stay awake. IPTV Smarters Pro on a Windows PC does not always send that signal reliably, so you need to set the timers yourself.

None of these settings require administrator tools or third-party software. Everything lives in standard Windows menus.

Adjusting power and display settings in Windows

Open Settings, go to System, then Power & sleep. You will see two pairs of dropdowns: one for when the screen turns off and one for when the PC goes to sleep, each with a column for 'On battery power' and one for 'When plugged in'.

For a desktop or a laptop that sits plugged in at home, set both 'screen' and 'sleep' under the plugged-in column to Never, or to a duration longer than the content you plan to watch. On a laptop you use away from a socket, setting the battery column to Never will drain the battery faster, so a longer-than-default figure is a reasonable balance without going to Never.

While you are here, disable the screen saver. Click the Screen saver settings link at the bottom of the Power & sleep page (on Windows 11 you may need to search for 'screen saver' in the taskbar search). In the Screen Saver Settings dialog, open the dropdown and choose None, then click OK.

If you share the PC and other people prefer a shorter sleep time for security reasons, consider creating a separate Windows user account for viewing and setting only that account's power profile to longer durations.

Quick answers

Will changing the Windows sleep setting affect other apps or battery life?

Yes, on a laptop running on battery, setting sleep to Never will drain the battery faster than the default. On a plugged-in desktop or laptop, there is no meaningful cost. If you share the PC, you can create a separate Windows user account with its own power profile so only that account skips sleep.

My screen still goes dark even after I changed the power settings. What else could it be?

Check the screen saver setting separately — it has its own dialog and is not controlled by the Power & sleep page. Also confirm you saved the changes in the correct column: plugged-in and on battery are set independently, and it is easy to change one while the PC is running on the other.

Does IPTV Smarters Pro need to be reinstalled if I update Windows?

No, a Windows feature update does not remove installed desktop applications. It may reset some power settings to their defaults, though, so check the sleep and display timers again after a major update if the screen starts going dark mid-stream.

Can I set a shutdown timer so the PC turns off after I fall asleep watching?

Windows Task Scheduler can create a one-off shutdown at a specific time without changing the permanent power settings. Search for Task Scheduler in the Start menu, create a basic task, and set it to run the shutdown action at the time you expect to be asleep.

Checking IPTV Smarters Pro display options

IPTV Smarters Pro has its own preferences panel, accessible from the gear or settings icon in the top bar once you are logged in. Look for a Display or General tab. Some versions include a 'Keep screen on' or 'Prevent sleep' toggle — if yours does, turn it on. If that option is absent in your installed version, the Windows-level changes above are sufficient on their own.

The app's login details — your username, password, and server address — come in the welcome email, usually within minutes of payment. You enter them once at the first launch; after that, the app goes straight to the channel list. If a future Windows update resets your power settings (this happens occasionally after major feature updates), the stream will start going dark again and you will know exactly where to look.

When sleep is not the problem

Sometimes the screen does not go fully dark but the picture freezes or stutters. That is a different cause — usually the connection, not the display settings. A router placed in another room, a congested Wi-Fi channel, or a PC that is also downloading updates in the background can all reduce the bandwidth the stream receives.

If you are weighing up whether a streaming stick connected to your TV would suit the living room better than a PC, the page on choosing a streaming device without confusing specs walks through the practical differences.

For households that watch international content regularly, it is worth knowing that channels from Africa are available through the evening lineup alongside the main English-language tiers. And if younger viewers in the house follow soccer, the Champions League channels suitable for families with kids section explains what is available.

For stream stability itself, the simplest fix is a wired Ethernet connection from the PC to the router. If that is not possible, moving the router closer or reducing the number of devices competing on the same Wi-Fi band usually helps. These are worth sorting before concluding the service has a problem — most playback issues that look like streaming failures turn out to be local network ones.
